I’ve been thinking recently that there are two theories about how to improve your ability to get (and keep) a job: the need to be multi-skilled and flexible against the need to specialise and become the expert. While both of these approaches have value, they do appear to be completely contradictory (at least to me anyway!). It’s the balance between finding your niche vs being able to do a range of things. For me, I think it depends on whether you’re a person who likes variety, or who wants to focus on one thing for extended periods of time. Although, as in all things, it is good to have a balance between the two.

And I am sure that flexibility for the future is important whichever approach works best for you.
